Hello, I'm Iryna!

My name is Iryna Nykonets and I come from Ukraine. I work as a analytical chemist at Cambrex Karlskoga.

Why did you choose to work and live in Sweden?

I really like the nature of Sweden, sometimes it reminds me of my homeland. I like being in Swedish society. People are very open and responsive. There is a lot of trust here. Everything around me is of very high quality: food, roads, transport, housing, education and work.

In what way(s) has the help from the Chamber of Commerce and Relocation Service made it easier for you to adapt in Sweden?

I am very grateful to Ulrika and Markus for their help in adapting. I had no problems with the bank and the migration service. Everything was organized for my arrival. They prepared the documents in advance and I provided specific information to fill them out.
After arriving in Sweden, Ulrika met me and my son. We were very happy to have lunch together, very nice to chat and even learn information about the beautiful historical city of Orebro. I received a brochure with useful information for a new person in Sweden and Ulrika answered my first questions with attention. Markus organized a meeting on the theme of life in Sweden. Where we had the opportunity to get acquainted with Sweden and its past and present, but also to establish contacts with each other. We were from different countries Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Colombia, Kenya, India, etc. We spent time with great benefit and in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Do you feel that you have adapted to the Swedish society with the culture, language, your work, leisure activities etc.?

Of course I am sure that we will adapt to the Swedish society. Ulrika showed us where the Philharmonic is located, the castle and told us in detail where you can spend time reminiscent of the history of ancient times, cinemas and delicious places. I also see gyms, a swimming pool, a library in the city, and subscribe to pages on social networks in order to keep abreast of current events. At work, colleagues and managers are very pleasant people, ready for a dialogue on work or life issues. Swedish language courses are organized during working hours and sports activities are supported. Work and breaks are very well organized.

.

What is the best thing about Sweden?

Me and my teenage son are in Sweden for about 3 weeks and we feel right at home.

Hello, we are the IYER Family!

We are Marlen, Pirosha and Anezka Iyer. Our little family is from South Africa and Marlen and Pirosha work for Epiroc. Pirosha is a Global Demand Planner and Marlen is an IT Project Manager.

Why did you choose to work and live in Sweden?

We received an opportunity via Epiroc to move to Sweden and found that it would be a great new adventure for our family. Despite the difference in weather compared to South Africa, there is always something to look forward to in each season here. To experience a different lifestyle and culture is amazing.

In what way(s) has the help from the Chamber of Commerce and Relocation Service made it easier for you to adapt in Sweden?

Relocating abroad is scary and can be a daunting undertaking, however Chamber of Commerce assisted us by making it a seamless process. From having our accommodation ready upon arrival, to the endless paperwork of the Visa, Skatteverket, Bank and School applications.

Do you feel that you have adapted to the Swedish society with the culture, language, your work, leisure activities etc.?

Yes. Very much so. Making friends, finding our new normal, such as, taking walks, learning the transportation system, and learning the language (officially as well as over lunch with colleagues).

What is the best thing about Sweden?

FIKA 😊! More importantly, the work life balance. Feeling comfortable when our daughter rides her bicycle to school by herself- that sense of security. The weather- you never know what the next day brings. 😊

Hello, I'm Mia!

My name is Mia Mergina and I work at Epiroc Rock Drills AB as a Global Processes Analyst.
I come from Indonesia.

Why did you choose to work and live in Sweden?

I got the opportunity from Epiroc to move from my home country and here I am. I think Sweden is a great country and has an excellent working environment

In what way(s) has the help from the Chamber of Commerce and Relocation Service made it easier for you to adapt in Sweden?

The staffs are really nice and helpful, they help me with my transition from my home country to Sweden, guide me to how things are working in Sweden, help me with the practical stuff that I need in daily life (such as, how to go to hospital, markets, public transports, public places etc.)

Do you feel that you have adapted to the Swedish society with the culture, language, your work, leisure activities etc.?

Yes.

What is the best thing about Sweden?

My colleagues, they are really helpful and always helping me whenever I needed help – Libraries are amazing, the parks are beautiful, the autumn is wonderful, midsummer such a fun to watch and many other things that I am unable to mention one by one.

Hello, I'm Bercelay!

My name is Bercelay Niebles Atencio and I work for Epiroc Rock and Drills as R&D Hydraulic Engineer.
I come from Colombia.

Why did you choose to work and live in Sweden?

I actually lived in Sweden before, but in Gothenburg. I became interested in Sweden after I heard that a friend was coming for some master studies. I realized that it would be great to have an international experience, and the Nordic countries (and specially Sweden) have good reputation due to the high-quality life, human rights and wealth distribution. Since most people also speak very good English, I also thought that it would be a good experience for practicing and improving my English skills as well. When I came for the first time, I studied a master program. My second time in Sweden was with my wife (also from Colombia) and our daughters were born here, but again we had to return to Colombia due to the pandemics. However, we were looking for a way to come back to Sweden and this job was the answer. We want our daughters to get a high-quality life, high-quality academic education and benefits available for kids here that are not available in my country of origin.

In what way(s) has the help from the Chamber of Commerce and Relocation Service made it easier for you to adapt in Sweden?

Definitely the help of the Chamber of Commerce made things much easier. I have to say a big thanks to the Chamber of Commerce and the dedicated people behind the relocation services. It is never easy to arrive to a new country with family and personal belongings, but when you know that there is a comfortable and nice accommodation place waiting for you, then that’s a relief. That was possible with your help, and later on, finding a permanent accommodation was also possible. That’s not easy in Sweden. I think that things moved faster at Skatteverket and Försäkringskassan with your help as well. It was also great the amount of information we got when we arrived as how the city works and the amenities close to where we live. Finally, finding a place for our daughters to start their scholar life in Sweden was much easier with your help. Thanks a lot!

Do you feel that you have adapted to the Swedish society with the culture, language, your work, leisure activities etc.?

Well, I think we are going through the adaptation phase. After being in Sweden, we spent almost 2 years at home in Colombia and returning to Sweden implied a re-adaptation to the way of living and the environment. Of course, I think it would be faster, since we have been before in the country, but not in the same city. I still need to improve my Swedish, since my knowledge is very limited. I have to admit that I have been lazy with this, but I will change that. Actually, I am working on this right now. People here have been friendly and quite nice. Thus, at work and in general, things have been great with people.

What is the best thing about Sweden?

I think there are many factors that in my opinion contribute: the organization in the cities in general is a big one. I like the fact that there is a lot of beautiful nature mixed with urban environments in the cities. That’s quite nice, I think. Finally, this is a great place for growing a family.

In what way(s) has the help from the Chamber of Commerce and Relocation Service made it easier for you to adapt in Sweden?

Chambers of Commers have helped us with housing, finding and applying schools and kindergarten for our children, applying of Swedish personal numbers and so on. It has been very helpful, because there are so many things to take care of when moving to another country.

Do you feel that you have adapted to the Swedish society with the culture, language, your work, leisure activities etc?

We feel we have adapted to Swedish society and the culture very well. Our children have got their first friendships and they have normal local hobbies in local teams like ice hockey, riding and soon football also. We have great work spirit also in our offices and we have done joint activities with workmates and so on. Language training/skills is going also forward day by day. Adapting have been easier because Finnish and Swedish cultures are very similar.

What is the best thing about Sweden?

Ice hockey 😊. The society is generally safe and good environment for whole family. We have also felt very welcome our self´s among work things, hobbies, schools and so on.
